Dent Repair near West Hill

Where the second car sleeps

West Hill parks on the street more than most of Scarborough. The bungalows and side-splits off Lawrence, Morningside and Guildwood Parkway were built with one car in mind, so the second one — the older commuter, the kid’s first car — lives at the curb. A car at the curb collects dents from a specific set of sources: a neighbour’s door swung open, a bin dragged past on collection day, a plow blade tapping a rear quarter in February, a bicycle handlebar along the door. None of these are claims. Most of them are one dent, no paint damage, and exactly the kind of thing paintless repair was invented for.

The lots add a second stream. The Pan Am Sports Centre on Morningside and the UTSC lots off Military Trail turn over fast, and September and January bring drivers who have never parked between two lines before. Kingston Road’s plaza lots are tight and angled, so doors swing into doors. Guildwood GO’s lot holds cars all day beside other cars that leave in a hurry.

Pushed out from behind, or worked and refinished

The first question about any dent is whether the paint survived. If it did — no crack, no chip, no crease sharp enough to have stretched the metal — the dent is pushed out from the inside with rods and levers, or pulled with glue tabs from the outside where there is no access behind. The factory paint stays, which means there is nothing to match and nothing to blend, and the car is usually back the same day. This is what we mean by dent removal without repainting.

If the paint has cracked, or the dent is on a body line, or the metal has been stretched by a sharp hit, the panel is worked back to shape conventionally, filled thin, primed and refinished with the colour blended into the panels beside it. That takes longer and carries a lifetime warranty on the paint. Aluminum hoods and doors, common on newer SUVs, need more care because the metal does not move the way steel does. Our estimator tells you which path your dent is on from the photos.

Why the curb-side dent is usually paid for, not claimed

A single street-parking dent is rarely worth a claim. A paintless repair often costs less than a deductible, and a claim can sit on your record even when you were not driving. If the car was hit while parked and the other driver left a note, that is a not-at-fault claim on your own policy through DCPD and worth making; if they did not, it is a hit-and-run claim, which most policies cover under collision with your deductible applying. A dent big enough to count with other damage toward the provincial reporting threshold means a trip to the Collision Reporting Centre first.

Whichever way you go, the estimate is in writing from photos, and you drive up Morningside once. If several dents have accumulated — the roof after a hail cell, three doors after a winter at the curb — send photos of all of them, because doing them in one visit is cheaper than three.

Questions people ask

A plow clipped my car parked on the street overnight. Is that a claim?

It can be. You can file a claim with the City of Toronto for damage from a City plow, though they investigate first and it takes months; your own collision coverage is the faster route, with your deductible. For a single dent without paint damage, a paintless repair may cost less than the deductible, and our estimator will say so from the photos.

Can a dent on a body line be removed without paint?

Sometimes. A soft dent that crosses a body line can be worked, but a sharp crease along the line usually means the metal has stretched and the paint has been stressed, and a conventional repair gives a better result. The photos tell us most of it; a look in person settles the rest.

How long does paintless dent repair take?

A single accessible dent is usually done the same day, often within a couple of hours. Several dents, or a dent behind a brace, take longer. We give you an honest window when we see the car and we do not book more than we can finish.
