Collision Repair in West Hill

Pulling out onto Kingston Road

The collisions we see from West Hill have a shape of their own. Kingston Road is wide, fast and lined on both sides with lots — the motels, the plazas at Morningside and at Lawrence, the small shops in between — that empty directly onto the road. A driver eases out, the gap closes faster than it looked, and the hit lands on the rear quarter or the front corner at an angle. Angled hits are the awkward ones: they push the quarter panel into the door gap, twist the bumper beam, and sometimes shift the rear body enough that the trunk lid no longer sits square.

Morningside and Lawrence adds the left-turn collision, usually a front corner into a front door. Further up, Morningside through the valley and Kingston Road down to Highland Creek both freeze early, and the slide into the curb or the car ahead at the bottom of the hill is the winter version. The university brings its own share: Military Trail and the Pan Am Sports Centre lot in September, when a lot of drivers are new to both the campus and the car.

Your insurance company, your choice of shop

If you were not at fault, in whole or in part, Ontario’s DCPD rules put the repair with your own insurance company, and fault is divided under the Fault Determination Rules rather than argued at the roadside. Two things need doing quickly. Tell your insurance company within seven days, which is what the policy expects. And if the combined damage looks like it is above the provincial reporting threshold, go to the nearest Collision Reporting Centre first and let the shop wait. Where somebody is hurt, 911 comes before either.

Your insurance company may read you a list of preferred shops. In Ontario that list is advice, and the decision is yours. Once you have chosen us, we open the claim, send the estimate and photos to the adjuster, and handle the supplement when teardown finds more than the photos showed. A rental through your coverage is booked to begin on the day you drop the car off, not the day of the accident, so it does not run out while parts are on order. One thing worth checking: if you removed DCPD with an OPCF 49 endorsement, the policy gave up Collision or Upset and All Perils at the same time, so no crash damage is covered and the other driver cannot be pursued for it either; we tell you plainly what that means before any work begins.

Getting the car to us from the far side of Scarborough

A car that drives can make the trip: Morningside to the 401, west to the 404, off at Sheppard. If it does not — a wheel pointing the wrong way, a leaking radiator, a deployed airbag — leave it. In Ontario you choose where the tow goes, and the operator has to give you an itemized invoice. Tell them 1800 Sheppard Avenue East beside Fairview Mall, or call us and we arrange the tow from our side. Once it is here the bumper cover, lights and inner liners come off, every hidden break is photographed for the file, and the parts are ordered as one list.

Structural points are measured before and after any pull and the numbers go to your insurance company. Where safety is involved we push for OEM parts and say so when the estimate has been written for something else. Paint is blended into the neighbouring panels and carries a lifetime warranty. Anything with a radar or camera behind it may require recalibration before you take it back down Morningside. Mandarin is available for all of it.

  • Written estimate from photos before the drive up

Questions people ask

I was hit turning left at Morningside and Lawrence and the other driver says it was my fault. What now?

Do not settle it at the intersection. Exchange licence, plate and insurance details, photograph both cars and the lights, and report it to your insurance company. Fault is assigned under Ontario’s Fault Determination Rules, often as a percentage, and your own insurance company repairs your car through DCPD in any case. We can walk you through how a split affects the deductible.

Can I get the car looked at before I decide whether to claim?

Yes. Send the photos and our estimator will reply with a written estimate and a note on whether the damage is the kind that hides more underneath. That gives you a real number to weigh against your deductible before you call your insurance company.

Do you deal with every insurance company, or only certain ones?

Every one. Insurance-direct claims handling is how we work with all of them, whether or not we are on a preferred list. We send the estimate, meet the adjuster here, and handle supplements, so your involvement is mostly signing and picking up the keys.
