How a Newmarket claim ends up on our counter
We do not pretend to be Newmarket’s neighbourhood shop. There are body shops on Davis Drive and off Mulock, and for a scuff you can live with, one of them is the shorter drive. The cars that come to us from Newmarket arrive for specific reasons. An insurance company has opened a claim and the driver wants one person — the owner who wrote the estimate — running it rather than a service desk. A brother-in-law in Aurora or a colleague in Markham had a car here and could not find the repair afterward. A tow truck needed a destination at midnight on the 404 and the driver wanted a shop they had heard of. Or the family speaks Mandarin at home and would rather explain what happened, and hear what it means, without translating.
Those reasons shape how the work is organized. The first thing our estimator does is read your photos and write a proper estimate, so the trip down the 404 is a drop-off, not a look. Ontario law is on your side here: your insurance company can recommend a shop, but the choice is yours, wherever you live.
The hits we see from the 404 and the Yonge–Davis grid
Highway damage from Newmarket has a pattern. Southbound mornings stack up between Aurora Road and Major Mackenzie, and a moment of inattention becomes a rear-end at something close to highway speed — a crushed rear bumper, a bent trunk floor, sometimes a rear body panel pushed forward. The short merges at Davis Drive and Green Lane produce sideswipes along the driver’s side, with the mirror, both doors and the quarter panel scraped in one line. Northbound on a summer Friday the 404 crawls from Highway 7 to Bloomington, and the low-speed chain rear-end takes out three cars at once.
In town the impacts are slower but the intersections are wide. Davis and Yonge, where the bus rapidways meet, sees left-turn conflicts that hit the front corner square on; Davis and Leslie collects the drivers leaving the 404 too fast. A front-corner hit at 40 km/h looks like a bumper and a headlamp until the cover comes off and the rail tip, the radiator support and the wiring behind them show what actually happened. Our estimator writes the first estimate from photos and finalizes it after teardown, when every piece of hidden damage has been photographed for the file.
The file is run so you drive down exactly twice
The drive is about 28 to 40 minutes each way, so we work to make it two trips in total. When the car is drivable you get a drop-off date once parts are confirmed, and the rental through your coverage is ready at the shop when you arrive. When it is not, leave it where it stopped — the shoulder near Green Lane, a Collision Reporting Centre lot, your driveway on the Glenway side — and tell the tow operator the destination is Sheppard and Don Mills. We confirm arrival with the driver and open the claim the same day.
From there the claim is our job. We deal with the adjuster, document supplements with photographs when teardown finds more, push for OEM parts wherever safety hardware is involved, and call you when the car is ready rather than when it is nearly ready. Paint and refinish carry a lifetime warranty. 我们说普通话 — if Mandarin is easier, the whole file can run that way.
- First estimate from photos, final after teardown
- Tow coordinated from wherever in Newmarket the car stopped
- Rental through your own coverage, ready at the hand-off
- Adjuster, supplements and parts handled from our office
Questions people ask
I was rear-ended on the 404 near Aurora Road and it was not my fault. Who pays?
Your own insurance company, under Ontario’s DCPD rules, as long as you did not remove that coverage with the OPCF 49 endorsement, which takes collision and all perils with it and leaves nothing to claim for a crash from any source. Fault is assigned under the Fault Determination Rules, and a not-at-fault driver does not pay for the repair. We open the claim with your company and run it from our office.
My car is at the Collision Reporting Centre and cannot be driven. What now?
Send us the photos you took and the reporting-centre paperwork. We arrange the tow from the centre’s lot to Sheppard and Don Mills, open the claim with your insurance company, and book the rental through your coverage so it is waiting for you rather than the other way around. You do not need to come to the shop until pickup.
Can the whole collision claim be handled in Mandarin?
Yes. We work in Mandarin and English, so the estimate, the explanation of what the adjuster wrote, the parts decisions and the pickup walk-through can all happen in the language you are more comfortable in. Your insurance company still gets its paperwork in English; that part is ours to handle.
