Nobody in Newmarket picks a body shop beside Fairview Mall for convenience — there are shops on Davis Drive and around the industrial streets off Mulock. Newmarket drivers reach us through a claim that landed on our desk, a friend or family member whose car was fixed here, a tow after a bad night on the 404, or because they wanted to run the whole claim in Mandarin. Because the distance is real, we plan around it: our estimator writes the estimate from your photos before you leave home, the tow is coordinated from our end when the car cannot be driven, and the rental is booked to meet you at drop-off. The goal is one trip down the 404, not three.
One highway, no turns: Davis Drive to Sheppard
From most of Newmarket you are on the 404 within ten minutes — Davis Drive east past Southlake and the GO station, or Green Lane if you live at the north end of town. After that it is a single southbound run: past the Aurora exits, through the Bloomington and Stouffville Road stretch where traffic thins, down through Richmond Hill and Markham where it thickens again at 16th Avenue and Highway 7, under the 407, and off at Sheppard Avenue. The ramp drops you at Don Mills with Fairview Mall on your right and our door a few hundred metres on. In ordinary conditions that is about 28 to 40 minutes; on a Friday afternoon in July, with the cottage crowd heading the other way, the southbound side is usually the calm one.
The same highway is where a lot of Newmarket collision work begins. The merge at Davis Drive is short, the merge at Green Lane is shorter, and the stretch between Bloomington and Major Mackenzie sees the classic morning rear-end when the commute stacks up without warning. Drivers who work in North York, Markham or Richmond Hill run that corridor twice a day, which is also why some of them find it easier to leave the car with us on the way to work than to lose a weekday to a shop at home.
Parking dents in town, deer and windrows outside it
Inside town the damage is mostly parking. Upper Canada Mall on a December weekend, the big-box lots along Yonge between Davis and Green Lane, and the Davis and Yonge corner where the two bus rapidways meet — these produce door dings, cart dents and bumper-corner scuffs by the dozen. Main Street is its own case: angled parking on a narrow historic street means backing out blind into traffic, and the rear quarter panel takes the hit more often than the bumper does. The Fairy Lake and Tom Taylor Trail lots are quieter but tight, and the GO station lot on Davis fills early with commuters who park close.
North of Green Lane the risks change. Leslie, Woodbine and Bathurst run through open farmland toward Holland Landing, Sharon and Queensville, and deer cross them in the dark for most of the year. A deer strike at rural speed is a hood, a grille, a headlamp and often a radiator support — structural work, not a cosmetic job. Then there is winter: drifting on the open concession roads, and windrows at driveway mouths that scrape rockers and crack bumper covers on the way out each morning. Freeze–thaw potholes on Davis and Mulock follow in March.
Timing a repair around 36 kilometres
The distance changes how we run the file, not whether we take it. Send three photos before anything else — the whole corner of the car, the damage close up, and the door-jamb label for the paint code — and our estimator reads them and writes an estimate the same business day. If the car is drivable you book the drop-off knowing the parts are ordered and the bay is waiting. If it is not, tell the tow operator the destination is Sheppard and Don Mills; Ontario law leaves that choice with you, and we coordinate with the driver so the car arrives where the work happens. A rental through your own coverage is arranged to be ready at the shop when you hand over the keys, and pickup is scheduled the same way, so the return is one drive rather than a wait.

Newmarket questions
Why would I bring a car from Newmarket to North York instead of a shop on Davis Drive?
Most people do not, unless there is a reason. The usual ones are an insurance claim that is easier to run through one owner-estimator, a referral from someone in the family whose car we fixed, a tow that needed a destination, or a preference to handle the claim in Mandarin. Distance costs you one drive down the 404; the photo estimate and rental timing are meant to keep it at one.
Can the tow truck bring my car straight from Newmarket to your shop?
Yes. In Ontario the destination is your call, not the tow operator’s. Tell the driver 1800 Sheppard Avenue East at Don Mills, and call us so we can confirm the arrival. If the car is already sitting in a Collision Reporting Centre lot or a Newmarket impound, we arrange the second leg so you do not have to.
How long is the drive from Davis Drive, honestly?
About 28 to 40 minutes southbound in normal traffic — the 404 from the Davis Drive ramp to the Sheppard exit with no turns. Mornings between Bloomington and Highway 7 can add ten minutes. Friday afternoons in summer the cottage traffic is on the northbound side, so coming to us is usually easier than going home.
