Auto Body Painting for Newtonbrook

Houses built for one era, driveways for another

Walk down Drewry, Patricia, or any of the streets between Yonge and Bayview and you can watch Newtonbrook change lot by lot. A 1950s bungalow comes down, a house twice the width goes up, and the driveway that serves it is a short, steep ramp with interlock edges and a garage door frame that leaves no room for a mirror. The paint damage from those driveways is specific: a scraped front lip from the apron, a rear corner rubbed against the stone edging, a door edge chipped on the frame, and an SUV tailgate that has kissed the garage header more than once.

None of that is a collision, and most of it is not a claim. It is refinish work — sanding the scrape back, filling where the plastic or steel has gouged, priming, and painting the panel so it matches the ones beside it. The garage-door type of damage tends to repeat, so we also ask what happened before we paint, because a second coat over the same corner in six months is nobody’s idea of a good result.

How we get the colour right

Your car has a paint code on a label in the door jamb or under the hood, and that code is where the match starts, not where it ends. A white that left the factory six years ago has spent every summer on Yonge Street and every winter under road salt, and it has drifted. We mix to the code, then spray a test card and hold it against the panel in daylight, adjusting until it disappears. Metallic silvers and the pearl whites common on the cars parked around Finch station need the most tuning, because the flake lies differently depending on how the gun is held.

Then comes the blend. A door painted edge to edge will show at the seam no matter how good the mix, so the new colour is faded into the fender and the quarter and the clear coat runs across all of it. The car is masked, the booth is heated, and the clear is baked before it is polished. What comes out is a panel you cannot pick out, which is the whole point. The paint is warranted for as long as you own the car.

  • Colour mixed to the paint code, then corrected against the car
  • Test card sprayed and checked in daylight before the panel
  • Blend into the neighbouring panels, clear across the whole area
  • Baked, polished, and covered by a lifetime paint warranty

Timing a repaint around a Finch commute

Most Newtonbrook repaint jobs come from people who take the subway from Finch and use the car in the evenings and on weekends. That shapes the schedule. A single panel is usually dropped off in the morning on the way to the station and back in a few days; a bumper cover is similar; a full respray is a longer stay and we say how long before you commit. If the work is part of a claim, a rental through your coverage is booked for the same drop-off morning.

The trip is Finch east to Leslie and Leslie down to Sheppard; the shop sits at Don Mills, about 11 to 17 minutes away. Photos first, though: send three and our estimator will reply the same business day with a written estimate and an honest word on whether the panel needs paint or just a polish. A good share of the scuffs from the Centerpoint lot turn out to be the other car’s paint sitting on top of yours, and that comes off.

Questions people ask

Will a repainted door on a white car show in the sun?

Not if it is blended. Pearl and solid whites drift with age, so we match to the car as it is today and fade the colour into the fender and the rear door rather than stopping at the seams. The Centerpoint lot in July is a fair test, and it is one we expect the panel to pass.

My tailgate has hit the garage header twice. Can you paint it so it lasts?

Yes, and we will also fix what is underneath, usually a dent and a cracked edge of clear that has let moisture in. Paint over an unrepaired dent chips again quickly. Done properly, a repainted tailgate carries the same lifetime warranty as any other panel.

How long does a bumper repaint take for someone commuting from Finch station?

Often a few days, depending on whether the cover needs plastic repair first. Drop off on the way to the subway, and our estimator will give you a pick-up day when the car is checked in rather than guessing from the photos. A rental is arranged if the job is on a claim.
