Auto Body Shop Serving Milliken

Milliken sits on both sides of Steeles between Kennedy and Markham Road, about 10 kilometres from our door at Sheppard and Don Mills — Steeles west to the 404 and two exits south, or Kennedy down to Sheppard and straight along, usually about 12 to 18 minutes.

Milliken parks in the tightest lots in the GTA and drives home on a road built for transport trucks. Pacific Mall on a Saturday, the plazas at Steeles and Kennedy, the fencing where Market Village used to be — the spaces are narrow, the turns are blind, and the cars that come out of them carry door edges, cart marks and bumper corners that were fine that morning. Then there is Steeles itself, six lanes of commuters and delivery trucks where a rear-end at Midland or a lane change at the 404 ramp does real structural damage. Households here often run three or four cars off one double driveway, so the question is rarely whether to fix it but how to do it without the whole family losing a car. Our estimator writes the estimate from photos, runs the claim with your insurance company and lines up the rental, in English or Mandarin, so the car is out of circulation for as short a time as we can manage.

Pacific Mall on a Saturday, and the lots around it

Pacific Mall’s lot was striped for the cars of the 1990s and now takes crossovers and minivans two sizes bigger. On a Saturday afternoon every stall is full, the drive aisles are a slow parade of people waiting for a spot, and a driver backing out has to guess at a lane that is never empty. That is where Milliken’s dents come from. A door swung wide against the car beside it, a cart pushed off a curb by the wind, two bumpers meeting at walking speed because both drivers reversed at the same moment. Across Kennedy the fencing around the old Market Village site has moved the lanes more than once, and the plazas along Steeles use the same aisle for parking and for the line into the drive-through.

Splendid China Tower has a garage, which trades the cart problem for pillars and ramps that sit closer than they look from the driver’s seat. Most of what comes out of these lots is small on the surface — a ding in a door skin, a crease on a rear quarter, a scuffed bumper corner — and most of it sits below the provincial reporting threshold. What matters is who was moving. Under Ontario’s Fault Determination Rules two cars reversing into each other usually share the blame, a moving car hitting a parked one does not, and a hit-and-run with no note needs a police report before your own insurance company will open a file.

Steeles west, or two exits down the 404

From Steeles and Kennedy we are about 10 kilometres away. Head west on Steeles past Midland, Warden and Victoria Park to the 404, take the 404 south two exits to Sheppard, and we are at Sheppard and Don Mills beside Fairview Mall, usually about 12 to 18 minutes. When the 404 ramp is backed up, stay on Steeles to Leslie and come south from there, or take Kennedy down to Sheppard and drive straight west through Agincourt. Any of the three works; the Steeles-and-404 run is the one that stays closest to 12 minutes outside rush hour.

You do not need to make that trip to find out what the repair involves. Send three photos — the damaged area up close, the whole side of the car, and a wide shot that shows the car in its space — and our estimator writes the estimate from those the same business day. The drive comes once, on drop-off day, with the parts already here and the rental arranged through your own coverage so nobody in the house is stranded. If the conversation is easier in Mandarin, start it that way; the estimate, the claim updates and the pick-up call can all happen in either language.

  • A written estimate from photos before the first trip
  • The claim opened and run with your insurance company from our counter
  • Rental through your coverage, timed to the morning you drop the car
  • Tow coordinated from anywhere on Steeles if the car cannot drive

Four cars, one driveway, and a road built for trucks

The streets between Steeles and McNicoll, and the newer ones just north into Markham, went up in the 1980s and 90s with double driveways that now hold three or four cars for three generations of the same household. The fourth car lives on the apron or the street. In winter the plow leaves a windrow across the driveway mouth, the car on the street picks up a scrape from a passing mirror, and the oldest car in the fleet collects salt on its rockers while it waits its turn to be driven. The damage is rarely dramatic; it is just constant.

Steeles is a different matter. Six lanes carry commuters, delivery vans and the transport trucks that serve the industrial blocks around Milliken GO and the rail line, and the lights at Kennedy, Midland and Birchmount stack that traffic up several times an hour. A rear-end there is not a lot bump. It pushes a trunk floor or a rear body panel, and the left turn from Steeles into the mall on a fading green produces front-corner hits that reach the wheel and the suspension. Those are the cars that arrive here on a flatbed, and in Ontario the tow goes where you say, not where the truck prefers.

Milliken questions

Someone backed into my car in the Pacific Mall lot while I was reversing too. Who pays?

When both cars were moving backward, Ontario’s Fault Determination Rules usually split the fault between the two drivers, and each of you claims your own damage through your own insurance company under DCPD, with the deductible applied according to your share. Photograph both cars where they stopped, get the other driver’s licence, plate and insurance details, and send us the pictures; we write the estimate and open the file.

We run four cars in one house. Can the repair happen without someone being stuck at home?

That is how we plan every Milliken job. The estimate is written from your photos, the parts are ordered before the car moves, and the drop-off is booked for the morning they arrive so the car is not sitting here waiting. If it is a claim the rental comes through your own coverage and is ready at the counter; if it is not, a family member follows you down Steeles and takes you home.

Milliken is half Toronto and half Markham. Which Collision Reporting Centre do I go to?

Report where the collision happened, if it needs reporting at all: south of Steeles is Toronto and goes to the Scarborough centre, north of Steeles is York Region and goes to the one in Markham. A report is required when the combined damage looks likely to pass the provincial reporting threshold, or when the other driver left. If someone is hurt, it is 911 at the scene and police, not a drive to a centre. We do not need the report to write the estimate; the report number goes into the claim file when you have it.
