Auto Body Painting for Stouffville

A painter in goggles spraying a white bumper cover on a stand

Booked by the timetable, not the tow truck

Most of what Stouffville sends the booth is planned work — a hood peppered by gravel on Aurora Road, a door scuffed against a garage pier off Hoover Park, a bumper faded on the sunny side of a driveway in Ballantrae. Nothing is bent and nothing is hidden, which makes it the one repair where we can tell you the number of days before you leave home. Customers use that. Some drop the car on a Monday morning on the way to work in Markham or North York and collect it Friday evening. Others leave it with us and ride the Stouffville GO line home from Agincourt, a short ride east along Sheppard, then come back the same way when we call.

The photo estimate is the first step whichever way you travel. A couple of pictures in daylight, one of the whole panel and one close, and our estimator writes the estimate with the panels that need blending already counted, so the price does not grow while the car is with us.

Colour matched to the car you have, not the car you bought

A car that has spent five summers on an open driveway north of Stouffville Road is no longer the colour on its paint code. Sun fades reds and flattens metallics, and the north side and south side of the same car can read differently. So we start with the code, spray it on a test card, hold the card against your panel under corrected light, and tint until the difference disappears. On a metallic or pearl the colour is carried into the adjacent panels and faded out, because a fresh panel that stops at a seam is visible from across the GO lot.

Preparation is where the hours go. Chips are ground back to sound material, the panel is primed and blocked flat, and only then does it enter the booth for base coat, clear coat and a controlled cure. Fresh clear magnifies whatever sits under it, so a rushed prep shows for years.

  • Test card sprayed and checked against the weathered panel before the booth
  • Metallics and pearls faded out across the panels on either side
  • Chips and scuffs taken back to sound material, not painted over
  • Every refinish backed by a lifetime warranty

Gravel, dump trucks and the sun on an open driveway

Stouffville is hard on paint in ways Toronto is not. The gravel roads around Musselman’s Lake and the concessions north of Ballantrae sandblast the lower doors and the leading edge of the hood a few grains at a time. The subdivisions are still being built, and every dump truck turning off Main Street or Tenth Line throws stone at the car behind it. Once the chips are through the clear coat, the first salted winter on the 404 turns them brown. A hood refinished in the fall is cheaper than a hood and two fenders refinished after the rust has started.

There is also the lease question. A lot of the newer cars on Millard and Hoover Park go back to a dealer in Markham in two or three years, and inspectors look for exactly the scuffs and chips a Stouffville driveway produces. A proper refinish before the inspection is usually less than the charge for leaving it.

Questions people ask

The hood is covered in tiny chips from the gravel around Musselman’s Lake. Refinish or replace?

Almost always refinish. Chips are shallow and the metal under them is sound if they have not rusted, so the hood is sanded, primed, blocked and painted with the colour blended into the fenders. Replacement only comes up when chips have rusted through or the hood is already dented. Send a close photo and one of the whole hood in daylight.

My car is red and has faded. Will a new panel stand out?

Not if the colour is tinted to the faded panel rather than sprayed straight from the code, and blended into the panels next to it. Reds fade faster than most colours under sun, so we match to the car in front of us and check the test card in daylight before anything goes in the booth.

Can I drop the car and take the GO train home to Stouffville?

Yes, and paint work is the job it suits best because the timing is predictable. Leave the car with us, take Sheppard east to Agincourt GO, and ride the Stouffville line home. We call when it is ready and you reverse the trip. If the work is going through a claim and you are not at fault, a rental through your coverage is the simpler option.
