Auto Body Painting for Markham

Why Markham paint jobs are harder than most

Look down any street in Berczy or Cachet and count the pearl whites. Markham’s car park is newer than most of the GTA’s and heavier on the finishes that are least forgiving: three-stage pearls, fine metallics in silver and grey, and the deep reds that need a tinted clear to read correctly. On those colours a panel sprayed to the code alone and stopped at the seam shows up the moment the sun hits it in a Markville lot. There is also a lease reality — a lot of these cars go back to a dealer on Kennedy or Woodbine in two or three years, and the inspector will be looking for exactly that kind of edge.

So the question we ask first is not what colour the car is, but how the finish has to disappear. On a metallic door, that means the colour is carried into the fender and the rear door and faded out, so there is no line for the eye to find. On a pearl, it means test cards sprayed with the same gun and the same number of coats, checked against your panel in daylight before the car goes in the booth.

From paint code to a panel you cannot find

The code on your door jamb is the starting point. From it we mix a base, spray it out, and compare it to the car under corrected light — then adjust, because a finish that has spent three Markham summers on an open driveway is not the colour the factory sprayed. Preparation takes longer than the spraying: the damage is taken back to sound material, primed and blocked flat, because fresh clear coat makes every ripple beneath it more visible, not less. Then base coat, clear coat, a controlled cure in the booth, and a polish that leaves the repaired panel indistinguishable from the ones beside it.

Every refinish we do carries a lifetime warranty on the paint for as long as you own the car. If the clear ever lifts or the colour ever shifts, it is our problem to fix, not something to argue about.

  • Colour tinted to the aged panel, not just the factory code
  • Blend carried into adjacent panels on metallics and pearls
  • Test spray-out checked in daylight before the car enters the booth
  • Lifetime warranty on the refinish, in writing

Chips, salt and the 407 in winter

The seasonal damage that brings Markham cars to the booth is mostly stone chips and salt. Winter on the 404 and the 407 means gravel and brine thrown by every truck ahead of you, and the leading edge of the hood, the mirror caps and the lower doors take it. A chip is a hole in the clear coat; by the second spring it is a spot of brown at the rocker or the bottom of the door. Markham’s newer cars are mostly not rusting yet, which is the point — refinishing a chipped hood or a scuffed rocker now is cheaper than doing it after the salt has found the metal.

Paint work schedules more predictably than collision work because there is rarely a surprise under the cover, so when you send photos we can tell you how many days the car will be with us before you leave Highway 7. A keyed door in a plaza lot is a comprehensive claim with your normal deductible and no fault, and we price it both ways so you can decide whether to involve your insurance company.

Questions people ask

My car is pearl white. Can a repainted fender really match?

Yes, but only with a blend. A three-stage pearl has a base, a pearl mid-coat and clear, and the number of pearl coats changes how it reads. We spray test cards to match the depth, then carry the pearl into the door and the hood so there is no seam for your eye to catch. Sprayed to the panel edge and stopped, it would not match — which is why we do not do it that way.

The lease ends next year. Is it worth refinishing a scuffed bumper now?

Usually, yes. Lease-return inspectors charge for damage above their wear allowance, and a scuffed or chipped panel is easy to flag. A proper refinish with the colour blended in is normally less than the lease-end charge, and you drive a clean car in the meantime. Send photos and we will tell you which panels the inspector is likely to notice.

The car spent the summer under a tree at Markville and the sap spots will not wash off the hood. Polish or paint?

Try nothing abrasive at home first — scraping hardened sap drags it across the clear. Fresh sap softens with the right solvent and polishes out when the etching underneath is shallow. Sap that sat through weeks of August sun can etch craters through the clear coat, and a hood with etching across it is refinished as a complete panel. A close photo in raking light shows which stage yours reached.
