Auto Body Shop Serving Markham

Markham sits about 14 kilometres up the 404 from our door at Sheppard and Don Mills — get on at Highway 7 or 16th Avenue, get off at Sheppard, and you never touch the 401.

Markham drivers come down the 404 because the trip is short and the exit is ours: the Sheppard ramp drops you at our corner, about 14 to 22 minutes from Highway 7. What Markham sends us is mostly parking-lot and driveway damage from the Highway 7 plazas and the tight double driveways in the newer subdivisions, plus the harder hits from the 404 and the 407 ramps. Our estimator reads your photos and writes the estimate, then runs the claim with your insurance company from our side of the counter. Mandarin is spoken here, which matters to a lot of Markham households at the worst moment of their week.

One highway, one exit, no 401

From most of Markham the drive is a single road. Get onto the 404 at Highway 7, 16th Avenue or Major Mackenzie, run south past Steeles and Finch, and take the Sheppard Avenue exit — we are at Sheppard and Don Mills, beside Fairview Mall, before you would ever see a 401 sign. In ordinary traffic that is about 14 to 22 minutes from the Highway 7 interchange. Cornell, Box Grove and the east side add a few minutes along 16th Avenue or Highway 7 to reach the 404; Cachet and the Woodbine side are closer still.

The one honest caveat is the southbound 404 between Steeles and the 401 in the morning rush, when the lanes bunch up ahead of the interchange. If you can book a mid-morning or early-afternoon drop-off, the run is usually at the low end of that range. Coming home, the northbound on-ramp at Sheppard is right beside us, so the return trip is just as simple.

Where Markham cars pick up their damage

Highway 7 is the spine of it. Between Woodbine and Markham Road the corridor is one plaza lot after another — First Markham Place, the strips around Kennedy and Warden, the big lots at Markville Mall — and every one of them mixes tight stalls, concrete curb stops and people reversing while looking at a phone. The bus rapidway down the middle of Highway 7 adds left turns across two extra lanes at every signal, and that is where the harder side impacts and front-corner hits come from. Warden, Kennedy and McCowan carry the rest: stop-and-go rear-end taps at 16th Avenue and 14th Avenue, and curb strikes on the tight right turns into plazas.

Then there are the driveways. The subdivisions built since the late nineties — Wismer, Berczy, Greensborough, Cornell with its rear laneways — put two cars side by side on a driveway drawn for two much smaller ones, with a garage door frame in the middle and a windrow at the mouth every January. Mirrors, door edges and rear quarters take the hits. None of it is dramatic. All of it is the sort of damage that looks cheaper than it is until the panel is under proper light.

The claim, the language, and the days between

Most Markham files come to us as insurance work, and the insurance part is what people dread more than the repair. Ontario lets you pick the shop, whatever list your insurance company reads out. Under DCPD your own company pays for not-at-fault damage, fault is split under the province’s Fault Determination Rules, and if the combined damage looks like it will pass the provincial reporting threshold, the collision also has to be reported at a Collision Reporting Centre — York Region keeps one in Markham, so that step does not require a trip into Toronto. Injuries are a 911 call at the scene, not a centre visit. From there the file moves to our counter: we open the claim, deal with the adjuster, push for OEM parts where safety hardware is involved, and document any supplement with photographs.

We work in English and Mandarin (我们说普通话), and for a lot of Markham households that is the difference between understanding the adjuster’s call and guessing at it. Rental cars come through your own coverage and are timed to your drop-off, and if the car cannot make the drive down the 404 we coordinate the tow — you tell the operator where it goes, and Sheppard and Don Mills is the answer.

  • Phone photos priced in writing, usually the same business day
  • Rental through your coverage, timed so the drop-off and the pickup are one trip
  • Tow coordinated from any Markham driveway, plaza or Collision Reporting Centre lot
  • Claim opened and run from our counter, in English or Mandarin

Markham questions

Do I have to take the 401 to reach you from Markham?

No. The 404 south ends its useful part for you at the Sheppard Avenue exit, which is our corner at Sheppard and Don Mills. The 401 interchange is a minute further south and you never enter it. From Highway 7 plan on about 14 to 22 minutes in normal traffic.

There are body shops all along Highway 7 and Kennedy. Why drive to North York?

Partly the drive is shorter than people expect, and partly it is who handles the file. Here the owner reads your photos, writes the estimate and runs the claim personally, in English or Mandarin. Your policy pays for the repair at whichever Ontario shop you choose, so the question is only whether the estimate and the finish are worth fourteen minutes on the 404. Most Markham customers decide they are.

Is there a Collision Reporting Centre in Markham, or do I have to come into Toronto to report?

York Region has its own Collision Reporting Centres, including one in Markham, so a collision inside York Region is reported there rather than at a Toronto division. Report when the combined damage looks likely to exceed the provincial threshold, or when the other driver drove off; if anyone was injured, you call 911 instead and the police attend. Bring the report number with you or send it with your photos, and we attach it to the claim.
